slow fashion gift guide.

Slow fashion is a paradigm shift in the fashion industry, championing sustainability and a more mindful approach towards clothing consumption. It urges consumers to think beyond fast-paced trends and prioritize quality over quantity. While slow fashion might come with a higher price tag, it is undoubtedly worth the investment. By supporting ethically-made, durable garments, we not only reduce our environmental footprint but also enjoy clothing that stands the test of time. Moreover, slow fashion promotes size inclusivity, recognizing that every body deserves fashionable and well-fitting clothing options. It celebrates diversity and rejects harmful body standards, making it a holistic choice for conscientious fashion lovers.

Here are some of my favorite slow fashion brands and pieces that would make amazing gifts any time of year!

  1. If I could pick one brand for my entire wardrobe to be from, it would be Tradlands. The Nico dress is incredible and I want it in every color. However, the Shelter cardigan is a close second. The perfect length and comes in lots of colors, this cardigan is the perfect gift for anyone who needs a cute, comfy, extra layer.

  2. If you know me in real life, you know that never a week goes by without me wearing a pair of overalls at least once. I love a good overall no matter the time of year. If you like overalls too, you have to check out Lucy & Yak. They make some of the best overalls around in lots of styles and fabrics. Check out the original dungaree as a great starting point for the overall lovers in your life.

  3. I’m partial to brands that are original to North Carolina, but Pamut Apparel would be on my list even if each piece wasn’t handmade in NC. Each piece is thoughtfully put together and is always special. This geometry top will look good on everyone and add interest to any wardrobe!

  4. Who doesn’t love a good stripe? Curator SF creates beautiful basics out of linen, gauze, and other natural materials that compliment any outfit. This striped Perry dress is a dream. Despite what “they” say, stripes look good on everyone, and this dress is perfect for vacation or just running errands.

  5. Universal Standard has a commitment to size inclusivity and quality. They go from size 00-40 and have something for everyone! These Donna jeans are so versatile, good for both work and play. Plus if you’re petite like me, the length is perfection!

  6. ABLE is committed to supporting not only its customers, but also its workers. They “work to create safe, dignified jobs both in Nashville, where our home office, jewelry studio and fulfillment center are, and also around the world, through our partnerships with value-aligned manufacturers.” This basic button down would appeal to anyone looking for elevated basics in their closet! They also have amazing leather goods!

  7. Eileen Fisher was the first ethical fashion brand I was ever familiar with, after finding a few pieces thrifting. They make simple, elegant pieces for women of all ages and sizes. A good wide-leg ponte pant like these will take any woman far in her life at home or in her career.

  8. These days, loungewear is considered all-day wear. Why not be comfy and cute at the same time? This cropped sweatshirt from Girlfriend Collective is everything. It comes in lots of colors and pairs perfectly with their wide-leg sweatpants!

  9. Sotela insures thatwith each new collection we are deepening our commitment to inclusivity for all body types and genders. We design each collection with real bodies in mind, not models or mannequins.” The Mariposa dress is customizable and comes in lots of cute patterns and colors for any style!
